You may remember I wrote about these wonderful dolls back in March – how time flies. Well anyway, if you don’t remember my original post about them you can read it here.
I have been waiting (impatiently!) for these fabulous dolls to reach the market production stage because, well honestly, I want one! I don’t often get excited over plush toys, but Lulla is far from just that and I honestly believe these should be in every hospital and home everywhere.
Only those who are or have been in the position of having a child in the SCBU unit can fully understand how hard it can be to cope with not being able to stay with their new born 24/7 and hold them close at a whim. We truly do take it for granted when we have perfectly healthy babies and make our way home with them the next day. The cold hard fact is that a lot of babies need that closeness to their mother, they need it to feel contact or hear a heartbeat just to survive, but if a baby is in an incubator and can’t be held close that can sometimes be denied.
The designer behind this wonderful doll had a friend whose baby was in the SCBU unit in Iceland, and that is how Lulla came to be. The doll plays a real life recording of breathing and the heartbeat of a mother at rest, which has shown to help baby fall into a deep and restful sleep. What is really unique about this doll is that the recording will play for 8 hours before it switches off, unlike most products that will only play for 15 – 30 mins. This aids sleep and helps to encourage baby to sleep for longer, which can reduce SIDs and encourage a general wellbeing in your child (and reduce the bags under your eyes too!)
One of my favourite things about the doll is that it is unirace and unisex. No pink is for girls, blue is for boys, no black skinned doll, no white skinned doll. One doll that unites and encompasses everyone. The out layer of Lulla is soft natural cotton and the filling is hypoallergenic, plus the fabric of the doll has been designed to absorb Mama’s smell to promote a sense of wellbeing for the baby so if you sleep with the Lulla Doll in your bed during pregnancy and then give it to baby when he/she is born it will hold your smell.
So now I have your attention and you can see how awesome these dolls are, we want them on the market to buy yesterday, right?
Well Rórócare need your help to finalise the manufacture of this wonderful product. They are over the biggest hurdles and after 3 years of extensive testing and are ready to start raising funds to get this to the market by (hopefully) March. So, how can you help? Simply pre-order your doll, complete with a discount from their Indiegogo campaign site! It’s as simple as that, not only will you get your doll with a discount, but you will know that you have helped bring to production something that could literally save lives.
As part of the campaign, Lulla Doll’s are available as part of a special package offer with wall stickers (which you can buy alone too to jazz up your child’s room) and an absolutely amazing smelling room spray that I have used for Toby & Reuben to create a soothing atmosphere before bed. This really would be a wonderful gift to give to someone who is expecting or a young baby at Christmas time.
Visit the campaign site here, the Rórócare website here and please, please follow them on twitter here or Facebook here.

P.s – I feel like it’s important to share what kind of company this is, not only are they working to get this wonderful, life saving doll to market but they are also working closely with UNICEF to support them, with each purchase you are giving a severely malnourished child one portion of UNICEF Nutritious Therapeutic Milk. How wonderful is that?!
This actually answered my downside, thanks!
