Edible playdough recipe :: Marshmallow playdough

LETS TALK EDIBLE PLAYDOUGH. Specifically, edible marshmallow playdough… I’m so pleased I have your attention… read on beauties.

It’s been my mission over the last few weeks to try and get into a new normal with the kids whilst this COVID-19 shit show carries on. I’ve been trying to think of things to do, ways to entertain the monsters and stuff that I can do to keep them busy for an hour or so. I’m not asking for much but… yeah, what the hell do I do for them that I haven’t done before.

It would need to be safe for the mouth. Washable. Safe for them to put their hands in their mouths afterwards and less likely to make me cry when I was I discover they have “accidentally” put it on the sofa like I do with the slime.

So I present you:

Edible playdough. Edible marshmallow playdough. This isn’t something new but it is the first time I’ve tried it. There are a range of different recipes (like this one from Hannah over at Hi Baby blog) but after playing around for a while, this was my favourite.

• 1 jar of Marshmallow fluff (you could melt marshmallows but this was quicker)
• 1-3 cups of icing sugar (again, cornflour will work BUT it taste vile and can give your tinker tummy ache if too much is swallowed. It is flour after all.
• 1-3 tbsp oil

Place the marshmallow fluff in a bowl and start adding the icing sugar. I timed it and it took me 12 mins of adding and mixing the icing sugar into the fluff. It is obnoxiously sticky for AGES, but it is easy to see when the mixture is getting a bit too dry and it’s time to add the oil!! Add your oil 1 tbsp at a time, too much and it will go more like slime – which is also a cool way of making edible marshmallow slime!

Once you have your playdough, add colours!! You can add any food colouring you like.

Chuck down some shape cutters, rolling pins and either crack on with some work or put your feet up.

Your job here is done. For 4.2 seconds.
