Chiaozza (pronouced CHOW-za like wowza) is a small design studio based in Brooklyn, NY, that I came across and instantly fell in love with via Coos & Ahhs blog.
They design all of their work by hand and keep their pieces to really small editions so you often end up with a one of a kind shelving unit or framed mirror in your home. I love the uniqueness of their work! My favourite pieces are the A-shaped frames (which are really shelving units for small display items – like in a child’s room, or as a piece of unusual art).
They come in such a variety, and when you visit the site you can pretty much see the dedication that goes into building these pieces of artwork, I mean, it leaps off the screen at you!
Chiaozza use traditional Japanese hand saws to cut the shapes and joints, which are then sanded and painted using a variety of wood paints and varnishes. Curved pieces are made by a process called steam-bending, where we heat wood in a steam box and then form it to a shape – how cool is that!
