This summer holiday, I’ve decided that I want to get out as much as possible. Not just for my sanity to stop the munchkins squabbling constantly, but also because there is something about getting OUT and spending time with your kids that is good for the mind.
It’s not really enough to just look after the mind is it? At school the kids are constantly going crazy, playing with friends, racing, chasing, jumping, skipping and that isn’t just at break time either. There is such a focus on using your body within the classroom now, kids aren’t stuck at desks for hours on end like they used to be when I was a kiddo. Hell no, they are up and about, moving their little bodies and learning. During the summer holidays I always fear that there is going to be a sudden stand still, a stopping of the motion if you like. We’re sitting on the sofa watching telly, we’re playing on the kindles and watching mummy’s iphone… but we’re not moving.
So out we go.
We go on walks for miles and miles, hunting pokemon on the pokemon go app or walking the dogs and exploring places like Brimham rocks or the Wolds. On sunny days we get out into the garden and we set up the paddling pool, run around the garden and have mini games of football. We get out on the bikes and take a picnic somewhere and we spend 6 hours walking around the local zoo.
There are so many ways to keep active too, and if you’re a working parent you can take advantage of the many many activities and summer clubs that are about, from summer craft days where the kids get to play and frolic about to summer geocaching and sports clubs. There is something for everyone.
So why am I telling you about this, mainly because I want to share that it’s important to keep up your child’s level of activity during the holibobs, and to view it as a chance to rest, but also a chance to do something together.
Secondly, I was asked by Push Doctor to share their facebook giveaway, all about promoting a healthy, happy lifestyle this summer holiday. Their new guide, which you need to share as part of the giveaway, is based on eating healthily (with some recipe suggestions), having an active lifestyle and continuing learning. Getting out, being productive – well, that combines the three for me.
You can win a bundle of goodies worth over £400 on the Push Doctors facebook page here!
