Win with ZooMoo tv show and app!

I’ve always been a supporter of kids having access to tech – if I’ve said this once, I’ve said it a million times here and on my socials and I still firmly believe that technology is such a fundamental part of our society now that we should be encouraging our kids to embrace it, not shy away from it.

Whilst I’m impartial to the odd unwrapping of small egg shaped toys on YouTube, I want to make sure that this isn’t the only thing that the kids get to see. We use Kindle Fire for Kids and having been doing so for a time to monitor what the children are watching, but we’ve also been seeking out TV programs for the children to watch that have an educational basis. When I was approached by ZooMoo to investigate (or rather set the kids off to investigate) their TV show and app I was really excited as Australian friends have written about this on their social media accounts, it appears to have the same popularity over there as Peppa Pig does here, but with an emphasis on learning and not encouraging parents to crave bacon and Valium.

ZooMoo, which is aimed at 3-6 year olds though Edith adores it too, is currently only available as an app and on Sky Kids On Demand (which is where we have been watching it) and for other networks, Virgin Media In demand and NowTV Kid Pass , in the UK, but I can’t see how it won’t become more and more popular and rapidly. The focus is all about animals, their philosophy based around “all animals, all the time” to help teach kids about animal wildlife around the world. One of the best things is that the children are captivated by the short stories, a perfect way to relax just before bed – which appears to be the time that my children want to go crackers.

Did you know that children are more likely to retain information at bed time? I recently found that out and I wish I’d known because I’m pretty sure it explains why the kids know so much about their crappy TV characters from having their kindles as a “treat” in bed on the bed time settings (which if you don’t know means that I can set a timer for them to stop working. So I let Reuben take his kindle to bed at 7pm and now he’s six I will occasionally let him have it until 8pm). Now we have the app though, and the kids love it so much because they have been watching the TV show, I’ve been able to let the boys go upstairs and feel like they will go to sleep actually learning something as opposed to just watching mind numbing viral vids. Of course I still make sure that my YouTube videos get 4-5 watches before they sleep to boost the ole stats (I’m kidding).

So far we’ve only watched the first series of bed time stories on the TV – each lasts for around 5-10 mins and tells a short story based on myths, legends and facts about animals. This new knowledge is then supported with playing on the app – which isn’t (like a lot of TV programme associated apps) just another way to watch the show but a totally separate offering for kids. The app itself is free and takes kids to eight different regions to explore and learn, guided by Zoomers. Children can interact with the animals they find in each place and I’m not ashamed to say that I have found myself having a little play after the kids have lost interest and drifted off.
