8 Mummy Life hacks :: upcycling weaning pots!

We have a tonne of weaning pots that I have used for the kids over the years but now that Edie is bigger we have absolutely no use for them as weaning pots, in fact to be fair, we’ve never really used them for her because she’s never been a fan of pureed food or even big meals and has just nibbled along with our meals.

I was looking at the weaning pots last week contemplating sending them to the charity shop when I started to think, what else could I use these little tuperware nuisances for? I forked out enough on them over the years and I have been indulging my passion for life hack tutorials lately, so I started to have a think… here’s my mummy life hacks for up cycling your unwanted weaning pots!

1. Paint pots!

We used to sell these in ELC, but you have a perfectly decent paint pot right in front of you! Instead of using the squeeze bottles and finding that your kids get it everywhere or struggling to find a palette that they don’t just plant their whole hand in, up cycle your weaning pots – they even have a lid so no wasting paint if the kids decide to finish before the supply runs out.

2. Mix up your own baking powder or spices!

I have done this on a number of occasions in a little bowl but then ended up struggling to keep the spice mix or baking powder anywhere. Simply mix it up in your weaning pot, use the amount required and then store in the cupboard or pantry with the rest of the spices. Easy peasy!

3. Make mini candles.

Remember my post about wax melts just before Xmas? Well, life hacks apply to your old Yankee Candle, the last (annoying) bit that you can’t get out. Melt it down in the oven as instructed, take a small piece of candle wick (as found in most crafting stores) and then pour into the weaning pot. Applicable to glass weaning pots only, don’t try it with silicone or plastic.

4. Ice trays for multi wean pods

You know those multiple weaning pots you get in the shape of a flower where you can pop out a frozen portion at a time? Well these are the perfect size for ice trays and as they have a lid, there is no worrying about leaking.

5. Craft pots

Store glitter, sequins, pins, thread, goggly eyes, decorative stickers… geez the list goes on! It tidies up the work space (or craft box) and is a neat way to keep things separated and easy to use.

6. Aquabeads or jewellery making kits

Reuben has been using aqua beads at school and as such has become rather obsessed with them, requesting a pack for his birthday. The only issue I have with this is that all of our crafting stuff is up high and I know he would like to keep this where he can tootle off and do it by himself, BUT with a toddler and a baby in the house, I can’t see that being fun for me when they rip open the packaging. By using these I can put them in a box for him to open, that *hopefully* won’t be so easy for the toddlers to open. Hopefully.

7. Baking essentials

Similar to using the pots for crafting bits and bobs, why not use them for storing hundreds & thousands, chocolate chips, sprinkles and more?

8. Keep nappy cream fresh when the tube is broken

All of my kids have had a thing for nappy cream tubes, you know, the metal ones that you can’t possibly set to one side because they will pull, bend and bite it until it has tiny holes that squeeze out all the nappy cream and make the whole ting grotty. So, empty the whole thing out into one of those pots, seal the lids and voila!
