I have to admit I never used amber necklaces for my boys when they were little and teething, however I’ve known so many who have and amber is such a beautiful, natural product.
Initially I thought it a bit strange that people were using amber necklaces and bracelets for kids, what purpose did they have? So I did a little bit of research and I think I may give it a go if baby number 3 struggles with teething.
So how does it work? Well, amber isn’t actually worn to minimise the pain in the teeth, but rather the swelling and inflammation in the body during times of teething. Essentially the heat from the baby/child’s body activates the active ingredient in baltic amber known as succinic acid, which has been scientifically prevent to have a positive effect on the body… surely if this works it’s better than dosing up on ibuprofen to minimise the inflammation, as that can cause all manner of problems (which I have been unlucky enough to discover with Toby who gets terrible tummy ache with ibuprofen!).
I have found so many retailers of amber teething jewellery for babies and toddlers, but I absolutely love these piece from Amber Baby, which you can find on Etsy. Each piece is fitted with a clasp that opens when there is undue tension and the beads are all individually knotted for extra safety.
Have you ever used amber teething jewellery? How have you found them?
