Watering and sorting the garden

One chore you can get your children involved in is helping with sorting out and watering the garden. You will need to do things that require more high maintenance upkeep such as looking up how to get rid of bermuda grass and implement this to your lawn. Bermudagrass can turn your beautiful Zoysia or St. Augustine lawn into a tangled mess and make your outside space hard to enjoy. When you use a certain herbicide it can sort it out completely, but this isn’t a job for your little ones! Instead, they can help out with things such as pulling up weeds (as long as you tell them which ones!) as well as using the hose or watering can to water all of the plants. You could also get them involved in planting new flowers and teaching them about the seeds and how to grow them.

Cooking Meals

Cooking is a necessary skill in life and the earlier you teach them it, the better it will be for them in the future. Cooking can also be really beneficial for encouraging your children to eat better as they age, as they will be exposed to more ingredients and learn about the food they are eating. Depending on their age, you can get them involved in things such as cutting up ingredients, washing them, making sauces, peeling potatoes or carrots and more. You can also ask for their input in what to make and help them learn what they like and dislike.

Cleaning Their Bedrooms

This is a task no child enjoys, but is a necessary one! When they get to an age where they aren’t toddlers anymore, there is no reason for you to be tidying their rooms all the time. Instead, encourage them to do this themselves. To make it an easier job, make sure that everything in their room has a place and that there are plenty of storage options for them to make the most of. You could have big labels with images and words on so they can easily find where items need to go and keep it organized.

Little DIY Jobs

If you have little DIY jobs that need doing around the house, don’t be afraid to get your kids on board. This could be things such as painting something, where you can give them their own little brush, or learning to build pieces of furniture. Think about their age when you are doing this and ensure they have the proper safety protection at all times, particularly for their eyes and ears as these could be at risk of being damaged if not.

Helping With Grocery Shopping

Grocery shopping is another chore that can be made more fun when you get your child involved and can help teach them plenty of things. They can learn the value of money and also be less fussy with food if they know where it comes from and feel like they have chosen it themselves. Take them with you and have them help you pick things from the shelf.

These are just a few chores that your children can help with around the home. Once they start pitching in, it can make it much easier to stay on top of everything that needs doing. It can also provide a valuable bonding session for everyone and you will get to spend some high quality time with your child while you get the jobs done.
